Baby it is most definitely cold or more like frigged outside. We are deep in the throws of winter, which means grey skies, endless rain (or snow, well, let’s hope it finally starts falling somewhere!), bone numbing wind and thick fog (clearly I’m still a resident of the foggy city by the sea.)
So recently, I have become a bit obsessed with the neon hues that have been having a major fashion moment over the past couple of seasons. There is just something about the hot pinks, and acid greens, highlighter yellows and bright, bright cobalt blues that make a winter day seem a bit more palatable (can you tell I’m a sun worshipper through and through ?)
I know, I know pastels are the next big thing for Spring . . . but I am still very much into neon, neon at the moment. We will get to the mint greens and pale pinks in a few months.
Plus, judging from the Pre-Fall 2012 collections that have been debuting over the past couple of months it seems as though these bold hues will be back in full force this time next year.
For Example . . .
So how to wear these hot hues . . .
The idea of donning head to toe brights – a la the Bravo stylist of the moment Brad Goreski – is a bit intimidating; although, I am working up to that lovely little challenge, and will master it, I tell you!
Said Stylist In Head To Toe Brights:
In the meantime I prefer adding one piece of neon at a time . . . a blouse, a skirt, a shoe, a bag . . .
Such As . . .
Which brings me to the subject of today’s post, Acid Pink Chanel. In my quest for fab. neon pieces to wear and experiment with I remembered that buried deep in the squashed, crowded mess that is my current closet is a glorious pair of hot pink Chanel ballet flats that I purchased more than a few years ago. I acquired these puppies in another one of my crazy, single-minded pursuits for a piece of fashion that had to be had.
The year was 2008 and these hot hued ballet flats were, apparently, the shoe of the moment. From the instant I spied them on the feet of some b-list celeb I knew I had to have them. But, like everything else that acquires “it” status they were absolutely impossible to find, sold out everywhere, yada, yada, yada. So where did I turn, yep, you guessed it, trusty old eBay! And find them I did .
Of course I wore them endlessly upon their arrival in my collection of all things fashion. I do have to admit, however, that, like everything else in this collection of sorts, they lost their shiny new appeal after a few years of good use; and, alas, I really did forget about them . . . until now!
And, that, my friends, is one of the things I so love about fashion. . . . everything old is always new again. Trends are constantly being recycled, renewed and refreshed. So, I have to say, that I most definitely do not adhere to the old adage regarding wardrobe cleaning and refreshing that states that if you haven’t worn something in a year then you should toss it from your closet. Many a time I have come across a lost gem, such as said neon flats, that are ready to be worn again after being benched for a couple of years.

I hope this inspires you to add a little somethin somethin to your regular winter repertoire.
P.S. I do apologize for the appearance of sock marks in the pics. of my lovely flats . . . Yikes! And, you wonder why I don’t do style shots just yet.
